# Hyperbolic Discounting

We prefer immediate rewards over future benefits, even when the future rewards are larger.

Hyperbolic discounting is our tendency to choose smaller, immediate rewards over larger, future rewards. It's like grabbing a cookie now instead of waiting for a whole cake later. This bias affects how we value things over time - the further away a reward is, the less we value it, even if it's objectively better. Interestingly, this isn't just a human thing - animals show this behavior too! It's like we're all wired to think, "Why wait when I can have something now?"
